Brufen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication (NSAID) that alleviates pain and reduces swelling (inflammation). It is commonly used to address headaches, muscle pain, back pain, dental discomfort, menstrual cramps, arthritis, and sports injuries. Additionally, Brufen helps to lower fever and eases minor aches related to the common cold or flu. Ibuprofen functions by inhibiting the enzyme in your body that produces prostaglandins. Lowering prostaglandin levels contributes to alleviating pain, inflammation, and fever.
For minor discomforts, mild to moderate pain, menstrual cramps, and fever, the typical dosage for adults is 200 or 400 mg every 4 to 6 hours. Arthritis is generally treated with 300 to 800 mg taken 3 to 4 times a day. When supervised by a healthcare professional, the highest allowable dose of Brufen is 3.2 g per day; otherwise, it is limited to 1.2 g daily. People should not take Brufen for longer than 10 days for pain relief or more than 3 days for fever reduction unless advised by a doctor.
For children aged 6 months to 12 years, the recommended dosage is 5-10 mg/kg of Brufen every 6-8 hours for managing fever and pain, with a maximum of 40 mg/kg per day. Juvenile arthritis is treated using a dose of 20 to 40 mg/kg/day divided into 3-4 doses. To prevent stomach irritation, Brufen should be consumed with food.
The most frequently reported side effects of Brufen include rash, ringing in the ears, headaches, dizziness, drowsiness, stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, and heartburn.
